What Can I do for My Father? Que Puedo Hacer por mi Padre?
Hello,
Not long ago my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and it's already in stage 2.
He has several problems and I find myself in an state of frustration due to my helplessness and inability to physically do something.
My father has a heart condition that prevents him from getting surgery, there aren't any options left for him other than medications to slow down the lung tumor that's already the size of cigarette carton.
My father lives alone in Spain, he has his pension while I have made my family in england and it's not possible for either of us to move to each others country.
I wondered if a care home would be suitable for him as there would be nurses 24/7 at his disposal and he is unable to walk or stand for more than a certain period of time due to his heart and now his lung.... but he isn't old enough.
I'm afraid that he may die alone at home and it may break my heart and hunt me forever but I can't just leave my job and my husband's jobs.... and my three small kids are in school....
What help is there available for my father?
many Thanks

Dear Alicia,
Where is your father living? It is the first step, in order to know if there is a volunter or an social assistant who can help your father.
This association helps with flats close to the hospital (i dont know the rules but we can ask for it if necessary), phychologist help, medical information etc
Do your father speak spanish?
Talking about my personal opinion, what you do for your father is what you will remember the rest of your life, in my case my mother had cancer during 5 years and she died 10 years ago, i was younger and i have the feeling now that I could do more than I did, but I just have this chance with my husband who has cancer right now.
What I mean, it is a personal choice, but your father gave your life once and I'm sure you will give your best for him :) Now it is normal to be confuse.
If you need to talk, please do not hesitate contacting me regalounasonrisa87@gmail.com
hugs
